I was raised in Vancouver, BC. I was always active from a young age playing soccer and rugby. I was fortunate to have many inspirational figures around me that motivated me and inspired me to jump into fitness. I have been weight lifting since I was 16 years old, but when I was 21 I was in a major car accident that left me broken for months.

I hired a personal trainer and went through a year of intense rehabilitation and eventually worked my way back to health. That’s when I decided I wanted to help others change their lives for the better and help others become the best version of themselves.

I received my Personal Training Certificate through BCRPA. I have been in the fitness industry for 13 years and I have worked with over a thousand different people with unique goals, body types and injuries. The last 13 years of my life have taken me on the most amazing journey. Along the way I met incredible people, each with their own dreams and aspirations. I have tremendous passion for fitness and everyday I still strive to become the best possible version of myself. I transfer that passion and love for fitness into helping my clients discover their full potential and achieve the goals that they thought were impossible. I am on a constant quest to stay on top of current scientific breakthroughs in nutrition & training. I continue to build upon my years of hands-on gym experience with continuous studying. ONLINE FITNESS COACH/ HOLISTIC NUTRITIONIST

AMY AKBARI

Our goal at HDF (High Definition Fitness) is to Educate, Motivate and Inspire members to become the best possible version of themselves, no matter what they are trying to achieve.

Amy’s passion for athletics began with her competitive gymnastics career, from 1995 until 2006 she was a full-time gymnast. She won hundreds of first-place awards, competed provincially and nationally, and was on track for the 2010 Olympic trials. This was cut short due to two major injuries; a dislocated knee cap followed by a fully dislocated and detached elbow. However, the end of her gymnastics career took her interests in a different direction and she dabbled in; swimming & diving, areal skiing, as well as trampoline & tumbling. Unfortunately, none of these compared to gymnastics, she then pursued her professional career. In 2008 she was enrolled in dental hygiene school.

Dental taught Amy the link between oral and overall health. Inflammatory diseases! Diabetes, heart disease, stroke, heart attacks, pre-term low birth weight babies etc… She was obsessed. Total body health became the goal. Fitness and well being became her life.

In 2013, bodybuilding caught her eye, and over the next 3 years she would compete in numerous bikini competitions achieving provincial status. Learning and experiencing how nutrition and training positively affected her body, she now wants to help others learn and experience this too!

EDWIN CANAS

I was born in Toronto and moved to beautiful Vancouver B.C. at a very young age, born on the east coast and raised in the west coast. Growing up I was very active in school sports, playing basketball, volleyball and football. It wasn’t until I was 15 years old and I stepped into the world of combat sports that I realized, not only was I a natural fighter and competitor but how much I absolutely loved it.

It taught me self discipline, confidence, integrity and helped mold me into the man I am now. I trained in many different styles of martial arts such as taekwondo, karate, kickboxing, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and my favourite sport of boxing. I competed in many tournaments and fights and was ranked 2nd in the province for my weight class in kickboxing at the age of 18. After a major accident and a major concussion followed by a few more concussions, I had to hang up my gloves and focused on my health and fitness.

I realized how much I loved fitness and decided to become a coach and trainer for the next generation of athletes. I first started working with young athletes as a strength and conditioning coach. I was lucky to be surrounded by great coaches and mentors that taught me the skills and knowledge I still use to this day. Eventually I branched on my own and with my experience I became a very well-rounded coach. Bodybuilding, strength training, weight loss, boxing or kickboxing whatever your looking for I’m sure myself or my team can help you reach your goals.

From a young age I have always been passionate about fitness and as an athlete I strived to push myself. It all started with my love for martial arts training, and progressed to competitive provincial wrestling and football. I decided that I needed to make changes if I wanted to live the best life I could and hired HD Fitness to guide me in this journey back to health and wellness. PERSONAL FITNESS TRAINER / BOXING COACH

TANVEEN SAHDRA

If you want to learn how to box and get to your strength training goals at the same time, I’m your girl!

Growing up in a small town on the west coast of northern B.C, Tanveen has always had a love of living an active lifestyle. It wasn’t until she came across boxing in 2015 where she felt truly challenged both mentally and physically. She was the silver medalist at BC provincials 2019 and then took home gold the following year as she became the 2020 provincial champion. She qualified for nationals this year in Montreal but her matches were postponed due to Covid-19. In the meantime, Tanveen took on powerlifting to improve her physical strength as a supplement to her boxing training. She now continues to work to achieve her goals of becoming the national champion while finishing her degree at UBC. Don’t let her smile & positive energy fool you, she will outwork anyone!

My Name is Brennan Fraser; I am a boxing coach at HD Fitness. I first started boxing and practicing martial arts to lose weight, but after six months in the gym and seeing local tournaments, I was hooked! I was obsessed with the vision of being the one up on that stage performing, having my hand raised, and the discipline and lifestyle that came with preparing for a fight. After stepping in the ring and having my hand raised in congratulations for the first time at Griffins Boxing Club Fight Night, I'd gotten a taste of feeling on top of the world. It was the ultimate trophy after all that hard work. Those moments have shaped me for the better, and I am happy to have an opportunity to guide others towards their boxing dreams as well.

My greatest aspiration is to help you improve your overall quality of life through health and fitness!

Growing up, I was always involved in some form of physical activity. I participated in various sports teams, danced throughout my adolescent years, and had begun consistently weight training, cardio training, and practicing yoga by the time I was 16. Exercise has positively influenced my life in more ways than being physically fit (although this is still a huge benefit)! It has provided me with confidence, a means to manage stress and anxiety, and shown me how to be disciplined and patient. During my adolescent and young adult years, I struggled with trauma and insecurity. At my lowest point, I had become unhealthily underweight from overtraining, yet under-eating due to developing an eating disorder. In addition, I grappled with frequent anxiety attacks and depression. I distinctly recall friends telling me that I looked sick. Doctors prescribed me strong medications to help manage my mental illness. However, the medications did not help. In fact, they made me feel worse.

The most re-defining thing I did for myself was to take control of my well-being. I didn't want to rely on medication and knew an unhappy existence awaited if I didn't make changes. So I researched best health practices and shifted my focus from merely being skinny, to being strong both mentally and physically. I continued to exercise, but with more emphasis on recovery, a balanced diet, and adopting a healthier lifestyle overall. It took some time and adjustment, but I eventually reached a point where I felt happy and healthy! Now, these habits are a part of my everyday life, and I absolutely love it.

All the physical, mental, and emotional benefits that I've reaped from committing to health and fitness have had a positive ripple effect on various aspects of my life. And I find immense fulfillment in helping others experience these amazing benefits! I am knowledgeable in fat loss, weight training, endurance training, flexibility training, and nutrition. I aim to share my passion and knowledge to empower others to become the best version of themself. I was always pushed to work hard, and I was amazed by what my body could do. Through this experience, I learned how much a good coach could influence your confidence and lifestyle. I am now passionate about providing that same experience to others. I have been exercising and working out for over 15 years and have 12 years of experience as a personal trainer. I have competed in bodybuilding for many years and won the Mr. Muscle Mania Physique title in 2016. I was at the peak of my career when I suffered a severe injury and ended up with a broken knee (patella) and wrist. Due to these injuries, I gained 28lbs. Recovering from this was a challenge, and I didn't want to give up on myself. I bounced back and was back in shape in 3 months, and I never looked back. This experience gave me a better understanding of how my clients feel when recovering/healing from an injury or working on improving themselves. I can relate to how they feel.

In 2016, I lost my job of 9 years due to companywide lay-offs. It was then that I decided I wanted to do something I was passionate about. I went back to school to get my training certification, and at the same time, I went back to my childhood martial arts academy to train kids from 8 years old up to adulthood that compete as fighters in the ring. I also worked as a Crossfit coach, where I learned the benefits of functional training and its uses in real-life scenarios.

Alongside my professional career, I dreamt of competing in bodybuilding. In 2020, I hired a bodybuilding coach to assist me in preparing for my stage debut. The results did not go in my favor, but the experience and knowledge gained are priceless.

I am NASM Certified and specialize in strength sports with 8+ years of training experience. I compete at a National level in powerlifting and hold 2 Provincial records placing 3rd in Canada at the 2023 CPU Nationals. I find balance through calisthenics & rock climbing. Currently, I am a Registered Massage Therapy student which gives me enhanced knowledge of anatomy, movement and recovery. Growing up Prabhjot’s passion had always revolved around sports. He has played soccer for the most part of his life gaining experience playing both at provincial and university levels. Over the years that passion had evolved into health and fitness. He has been consistent with his training for the last 7 years. Having done everything from bodybuilding, powerlifting, Olympic weightlifting, to sports specific training, he has put himself through it all. His passion now as a personal trainer is to help people achieve their full potential. Everyone is unique, with their own set of strengths and weaknesses. He wants to help transform your body and empower you to become the best version of yourself, all while demonstrating that you can achieve anything you set your mind to! 

Prabhjot is an ISSA certified personal trainer and strength and conditioning coach. He also has a background in Kinesiology with a specialization is active rehabilitation. Hello! My name is Sydney Smith and here is a little bit of my story. My passion for athleticism started with my first love, soccer. At the age of 7 my parents enrolled me in my first team and as the years of playing continued so did my determination to grow. I put in 11 years of hard work and dedication and was fortunate enough to hone in my skill and play for a high level team. It was an incredible experience and taught me a lot about myself as an athlete and how to persevere through challenges and set backs. When my soccer career ended due to Covid, I was able to pursue my interest of bodybuilding full time. I didn’t expect to thrive and I definitely didn’t expect to not only compete but win my first show. Once I realized I could have a career doing what I love, I decided to pursue personal training. AMRIT JAGDEO

Amritpal completed his Bachelor of Kinesiology from the University of British Columbia in 2019 and is currently a registered Kinesiologist with the British Columbia Association of Kinesiologists. Amritpal is an avid athlete having experience playing soccer at the provincial and national levels, as well as coaching youth soccer players. He also has experience as a team medical trainer for the Vancouver North East Chiefs Major Bantam hockey team. Amritpal's athletic background and dealing with injuries himself has allowed him to gain extensive knowledge in injury rehabilitation. During his free time, you can find him working out, hanging out with his nephew and dog, and cheering for Arsenal Football Club. He plans on continuing his education by pursuing a Master's degree in Physical Therapy.

SHANYA DHINDSA

Shanya developed a love for athletics at a young age, dabbling in soccer, gymnastics, swimming, golf, and many other sports. She discovered her true passion remained with soccer. Working hard to refine her skills throughout her childhood and teenage years. Her dedication to the sport led her to compete at a provincial and national level. Eventually she earned a scholarship to play soccer at the collegiate level at Washington State University and later transferring to University of California Riverside because she “needed some sunshine in her life”.

Through her experiences playing soccer at the collegiate level, Shanya discovered a love for fitness and an appreciation for the hard work and dedication required to excel in sports. She has since become a dedicated fitness enthusiast, regularly working out and training to improve her performance on the field. In addition, she has also taken her passion for fitness and helping others by become a personal trainer and fitness coach.

Born and raised in Mexico, where sports are a big part of our culture, I was always involved in physical activities like soccer, flag football, gymnastics, and ballet. As I grew older, my passion for fitness started to develop, so I got myself my first gym membership. There was something about building confidence and strength at the gym that made me even more passionate about fitness. As someone whose family members struggle with cardiovascular diseases such as hypertension and high blood pressure, I realized that a great solution and prevention to these diseases was a healthier lifestyle, that included working out and being more active. This led to my high interest in helping other people. Bohdan Riznyk

I was born and raised in Ukraine and recently moved to Vancouver. My athletic journey began in childhood and has been ongoing for 20 years. During this time, I've won 4 Ukrainian kickboxing championships and earned a medal at the European Championship. I have over 10 years of coaching experience. Self-discipline and hard work are the main principles I instill in my classes. My motto is 'victory belongs to those who are willing to go all the way.' I obtained a degree in sports dietetics from the National Sports University of Ukraine.
